Course of High Standard Training in New Entertainment Design

Design for the New Entertainment:
From night entertainment venues to retail entertainment
Every day the radical change in the night leisure industry is more evident, premises of new entertainment multiply: music bars, show restaurants, art cafes, ethnic bars, lounge clubs. Venues where design, setting and atmosphere are decisive. The new aesthetic codes influence also innovative commercial spaces that become spaces of retail entertainment.

A new specialisation and a new market for architects and designers
The evolution of the New Entertainment covers a huge, highly potential market both in terms of new creative motives and a demand for specific competences. It represents a new horizon for architects and designers.

The new course by Poli.Design,
Consortium of the University Politecnico di Milano
Poli.Design, Consortium of Politecnico di Milano, has established the first and only course in Europe of high standard training in "New Entertainment Design", the new specialisation for architects and designers interested in planning new venues for the entertainment under the sign of design and the evolution of aesthetic languages.

Specialised lecturers and vanguard professionals
The teaching staff includes academic specialists of the University Politecnico di Milano, who will be in charge of the planning, design and furniture section, and specialised professionals who will focus on entrepreneurial, technical and sociological topics, for a complete view over the New Entertainment.

Professional opportunities
Participants will learn design skills and receive a certificate of attendance by Poli.Design, Consortium of Politecnico di Milano.
They will be able to cooperate with companies of the design, host, furniture sectors, commissioning club owners and retailers.

Structure of the course
The course develops through theoretic-practical modules for a total of 224 hours of frontal lessons, practical exercises and a final project work that will assess the acquired creative and designing skills.

In touch with the industry, the market and professional operators
The cooperation with specialised companies will offer participants a constant contact with the operators of the sector. The research and application results developed in the final project work will be presented to the media.

Educational tours
During the course lecturers will lead participants on visits to premises of new entertainment, retail spaces and innovative hotels in Milan, to study in depth their features, functions and planning solutions.
Other educational tours to be done autonomously will be recommended to the students.

Candidates
The course is reserved to graduates of first and second degree, preferably in architecture, design and engineering, and professionals of the sector interested in specialising in design and space planning of innovative premises and spaces.

Duration and venue
The course starts 22nd September and will end 12th November 2008, with 28 days of attendance 8 hours a day. Lessons are held at Politecnico di Milano – Campus Bovisa
POLI.design, Via Durando 38/a, I-20158 Milan.

Admission
The admission to the course, for a maximum of 30 students, will be subject to a selection process.
Before the interview candidates must send a CV describing in brief their studies and the possible professional experience.
They are expressly recommended to bring their own computer during the project work.

Fee and Study Grants
€ 5,000 + VAT (€ 4,000 + € 1,000 of admission fee).
The sponsoring companies offer many study grants for deserving students.

Innovation-oriented professional updating
The Course in "New Entertainment Design" expands and completes Poli.Design’s educational offer, which is aimed at a permanent updating of professional competences and a continuous scientific confrontation with the main innovation, product and system issues.

A high-standard course of specialisation
The post-graduate specialisation course in “New Entertainment Design” is at its eighth edition and is reserved to 30 Italian and foreign participants.
It will have a critical and formative character and will focus on all aspects concerning planning: interior design, creation of environments, furniture, use of new materials and colour, role of sound and lighting technologies, the evolution of the market and new trends.
